1) What's Up?
2) Why Not?
3) How To?
4) What Else?
5) Which One?

What's Up?

First of all, you need to determine the actual problem. When you start to ask in detail, you will discover many smaller problems that combined into 1 giant problem. Do not worry to much now. Just list down the problems one by one. Do not try to solve it yet. Just focus on listing all possible small problems you can think of. After you have the list, you start the problem one by one with the next questions.

Why Not?

Ask yourself the question Why Not? whenever your mind telling you that it cannot be done.Same question can also be asked when someone else tell you that it cannot be done. It is important to ask as their perception and believe had told them that it cannot be done for them.

However, it does not apply to you.Your experience, knowledge, determination, skills, believe, etc are very different from others.

When your mind tell you that, you DON'T BELIEVE it. Your past experiences and condition may be not enough for you to do it. However, right now all had changed. You had new experience, new knowledge, new attitude, new skill, new habit, new desire. Everything is new now.

How To?

How To is a question that require you to think of solutions. It no longer ask whether yes or no. It already assumed that there is a solution.

What Else?

This is a question that requires you to think of more solutions. There are always different solutions to a problem. You have to repeat the What Else question as many times as required.

Which One?

By now, you have came out of many possible solutions from the How To & What Else questions. There are many choices available. Think of the different solutions and weigh the pros can cons. Use the Which One question to decide which is the best solution.

Example
Example on how to ask yourself these 5 Questions when your proposal was rejected.

What's Up?

What is the problem I want to solve?
I want to be able to get the client to accept my proposal.

Why Not?

Why I'm not able to make the client understand and take action on my proposal?
He does not look like convinced on the proposal.

How To?

How to make him convinced?
I will show him the examples of other successful proposal.

What Else?

I can provide him with past results.

What Else?

I can get him to talk to my other clients.

What Else?

I will meet him again to explain further with graphs and more data.

Which ones should I use?

I think I will meet him again first. Then provide examples of other successful proposals.

Ok. Let’s do this first.

Now you have an idea of how to use the 5 questions to coach yourself or anyone else.

Once you have decided the solutions to act upon, repeat the same process with the next problem.
Repeat the same questioning process until all the small problems have a solution.
