67) Should You Feel Guilty of the Commission You Earned From Your Friend or Relative?
This is a common feeling from new Sales Person.
You feel that you should not keep the commission because you sold something to your friend. You think that your friend will be angry because you took advantage of the friendship. Your friend was obligated to buy from you as a friend, although they don’t really need it.
First of all, you must believe that your product will provide benefit
to your friend. The guilt will surface if you don’t believe in your
product and you had “abused” your friendship.
When your product is really good for your friend, then you should be happy that your friend got it. Now, let’s think in another way. If you didn’t get any commission, would you still recommend to your friend?
If the answer is “YES” then the product is really good. You were not motivated by money when you sold to your friend. If the answer is “NO”, then the product may not be suitable for your friend because the sale was motivated by money or something else.
If the product is really good, you would have recommended it to your friend even there is no benefit to you. If it is good, then your friend would have got it from somebody else. Even go to the factory to buy it. The price is the same. So, there is no difference to buy from you or from anyone else.
You must realise that your friend did not pay you the commission. It is from the company. The money goes to the company and the company shares the sales charges to those who helped to market and deliver the product.
If you did not share the good product, your friend may even be angry for not letting them know. They had to get it from someone else and not from their own friend.
So, be happy (and not guilty) that you are able to share your good product with your friends.
