“You don't get paid for the hour. You get paid for the value you bring to the hour.” - Jim Rohn.

Interesting and important quote to realize.

First of all, let us clarify the meaning of add value.

Definition from https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/add_value

To make a product or service more desirable or useful.
Eg: The new Web site will really add value for our customers.

We wanted more money for the work we do. Many complained about the low salary they received for the work they put in. Company directors are paid very well because they head the company which collectively add value to the shareholders.

People will not even pay a Dollar for something they perceived as worthless. But will pay a lot of money for something they value.

For example, a small red stone is considered worthless, until somebody notice that the stone is a raw ruby. Then the value will go higher. The value will be even higher when the stone is polished and turned into a perfect ruby stone with nice cuttings.

In the same way, any information or knowledge you have can be turned into higher value. With some experience, you can turn the information into something valuable.

How do you add Value?

You are able to provide a level of advice and services that is significantly higher, more sophisticated and a lot more valuable(beneficial, useful, desirable) than others in the same field.

Below are some ideas you can do to add value to your clients:
a) take the time to ask and understand your client's needs.
b) provide alternative solutions or scenarios
c) recommend best actions to take
d) execute the decided actions
e) update the clients on the progress
f) suggest new actions if necessary.

Basically, you do more than what is expected from other average person in the same field.
And the best part will be when you don't charge for the extra things you did.

Ask yourself, "What value can I provide to others?"

The more the value, the better you will be rewarded.

The reward may not come in terms of Dollars & Cents.
But, you will definitely have more friends that will appreciate your value added.

You can be great when you add value to others.
