77) What is the Real Cost vs Benefit of your daily tasks?

77) What is the Real Cost vs Benefit of your daily tasks?

There are many things you need to do in your daily life. You may need to drive, cook, wash, Iron, clean the house, wash the car, send kids to school, etc.

As you have limited time and energy, you need to focus on the high level & high priority tasks. Do consider to outsource the low priority tasks that others can do. Do the high priority tasks that only you can do.

To make things easier to consider & decide, ask yourself the Cost vs Benefit of each tasks.
For example, you need to wash & vacuum your car.

Ask yourself what is the cost vs benefit. If you send the car to a car wash centre, it will charge you around RM12 and waiting for 20 minutes.

You just wait at the side and able to call, do Face-to-Face with other car owners waiting there, make new appointments, play with your Handphone, read something interesting in FB or just read a book.
But, if you do it yourself at home, it will take about 2 hours. After the wash and vacuum, your car will be clean & nice. But, look around you and at yourself. You dirty the house porch, wasted a lot of water, soap & water everywhere, dirty cloth to wash, the vacuum machine dust bag to be cleaned, etc. You also need to go for a shower and clean yourself up. You will also find that you will be tired and need to take a nap to recover the lost energy.

So, what is the Cost vs Benefit?
In accounting terms, the cost is RM12.
The RM12 in not the real cost!!!

It is the benefit as you get to save the RM12 and have the satisfaction to clean the car yourself.
The real cost is that you had to spend 2 hours and take away your energy from doing high priority tasks. The time and energy could have been spent on more worthwhile tasks that could have generated more than the RM12.

Another example is cooking for your family.

What is the Cost vs Benefit?

The benefit is the money saved from buying outside cooked food. Also the comforting feeling that you prepare a healthy meal for your family.

The real cost is the time, energy & money spent to:
a) Go to market to buy the raw ingredients, eg. Fish, vegetables, meat, onions, chilly, sauce, etc.
b) Wash, cut, prepare & cook the dishes and food.
c) Clean the pots, plates, cups, fork & spoon with water and soap.

Another example is sending your child to school or tuition.

What is the Cost vs Benefit?
The benefit is the money saved from paying the transportation fees.
The cost is the time, energy & money spent to:
a) Drive to the school and back home 2 times a day to send & pick up.
b) Wait for your child

Also the stress because of the traffic congestion.
So, be aware of the Real Cost vs Benefit in whatever you do.

Do the ABC (Awareness Before Change).
